I had one of those VideoDisc systems for a hot minute… Bought it second-hand, unfortunately it never worked so I took it back. If you want to see more of this kind of weirdness, check out Techmoan’s Retro Tech series on YouTube.
Incidentally, that “boombox” was just a slightly larger than average personal stereo rather than the ubiquitous on-the-shoulder hi-fi normally associated with the nickname, and the music it plays off the floppies is held in MIDI files!
